The good part - with the right size these shoes are great. They leave lots of room for my toes but still hug the rest of my foot snugly. The upper materials are well made and durable and the grip is fantastic on my flat pedals. I've struck my feet on some rocks wearing these and I felt protected. Unquestionably the best fitting and most comfortable bike shoes I've ever owned.
Four drawbacks: 1) there is no elastic strap to hold your laces down like all other RC shoes. 2) the sole is quite flexible so for longer rides these tend to make my feet a bit sore. 3) the toebox doesn't have a rubber rand on it so it is more susceptible to scuffing. 4) I had to go up a full size to get these to fit (normally 11/45, wearing 12/46).
I'd like to see a version of this shoe that addresses the drawbacks above but keeps the geometry of the shoe (i.e. wider toe narrower heel/midfoot).
I don't understand why all bike shoes seem built to fit so much tighter - it's not just RC. A snugger "performance" fit is one thing, but I need to go up a full size (from 11 to 12 US) to fit these. They're then too long. I have narrow to medium feet with more squared toes and most bike shoes crush my toes. Running shoe companies like Topo and Altra have heard consumers and responded by making wider toeboxes. RC you've got a diamond in the rough with the Vice model, make a more substantial version.
