How TORTA Aims to Build World-Class Trails in Tillamook County, Oregon

Our 2022 Dig To Ride Fund has been dedicated to the Tillamook Off-Road Trail Alliance (TORTA). Every sale of our burly TNT trail building and mountain bike flat shoe contributes $3 to this non-profit trail organization in Tillamook County, Oregon.

Our 2022 partnership with TORTA was natural and spawned from Biketown - a film by Freehub magazine. We were moved by the organization’s passion and dedication to world-class mountain biking trails on the Oregron coast. The non-profit has developed a strategic master plan to create a system of trails for community enhancement in and around the Pacific City area.

You may have witnessed the trail building mastery of Josh Venti, TORTA’s original founder and current trail designer, in edits of Ride Concepts Factory Team rider Carson Storch shredding perfect flow formed out of dreamy dirt on private land. TORTA is working hard to bring that same trail building skill to the public, for all ages and abilities, with the Buzzard Butte Trail Network, a 35 mile year-round contemporary singletrack project, and the Nestucca Valley Elementary School skills park, an all-levels skills development project at a local public school.

When it comes to building his signature mountain bike trails, Josh takes an artistic and organic approach. The terrain is his canvas and his machinery is his paintbrush. Josh’s trails flow with nature, creating not only more sustainable trails, but ones that are naturally fun to ride.

The trail building process, and riding for that matter, has proven therapeutic for Josh. He sees an opportunity to enrich the surrounding area with mountain biking. This is what prompted him to form TORTA in 2018 and its mission to build world-class public trails. It’s not only good for the health of the community, but it’s good for Tillamook’s economy too.

TORTA, like all non-profit trail authorities, must ensure that trail plans benefit mountain bikers as well as all other public land stakeholders. This requires relationship-building, navigating bureaucratic procedures and garnering community-wide support. Our Dig To Ride Fund helps TORTA and its passionate members continue to administrate, plan and organize. When tools do hit the ground, our contribution will help pay for signage, bathrooms, machine time and tools. As TORTA’s plan undergoes review, the mountain bike community that is building around TORTA’s mission is more robust than ever.

We hope you’ll join us in bringing amazing public trails to coastal Oregon!
